India s foreign exchange reserves surged by $1620bn to
5430572bn in the weekended 9 Aug on rise in foreign currency assets according
to the latest RBI data released on 16 Aug In the reporting week foreign
currency assets a major component of the overall reserves increased by S152mn
to $398739bn Expressed in dollar terms foreign currency assets include the
effect of appreciation/ depreciation of non-US units like the euro pound and
yen held in the reserves The countrys gold reserves surged by $1591bn to
$26754bn Special drawing rights with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were
